Annotation

This article reports on the language of ARKAN KAE, a form of ceremonial dialogue constituting a ritual greeting between two people, in this case, two village chiefs. It is noted that this type of ceremonial dialogue, although very common in indigenous, oral societies in Latin America, is being replaced by the European monologic model.
