Annotation

On the basis of a model of dialogic action games and an explanation of understanding, the standard case of misunderstanding is described, as well as two subtypes: misunderstanding the linguistic, perceptual, cognitive means (or a combination thereof) and misunderstanding the purposes (functions of action, reference, and predication). From this analysis, it can be seen that misunderstanding is inherent to language use.
