Annotation

This paper examines on what basis a native speaker corrects a non-native speaker's mistakes. The selectivity of correction is found to correspond with the types of repairs and with the kinds of deficiency environments. A second research question concerned the effect of the participants' asymmetrical relationship on the organisation of repair. It was found that while other-correction occurs frequently in asymmetrical conversation, its occurrence is constrained.
