Annotation

Biber has presented a methodological reconsideration of quantitative analyses of register variation in sociolinguistics. His approach involves the automated counting of the occurrence of certain features of language structure in large computerized text corpora, extracting from these a small number of factors, which are transformed into dimensions of variation, according to which text types can be sorted and compared.
