Annotation

This paper introduces a descriptive framework to analyze the complex pragmatic process involved in the resolution of deictic pronouns in political discourse and its effect on the persuasive functions of indexicals. The interrelationships of discourse spaces with participation frameworks and roles appear to be crucial in the analysis of (persuasive functions of) vague deixis. A speaker's power of persuasion, for example, can flow from an ability to shift in and out of various roles within and across discourse spaces. in particular the problems in resolution of vague deixis.
