Annotation

The papers in this volume each focus on one specific form of conflict management activity in the context of a village-level Pacific speech community. In the described activities that merge aesthetic performance, therapy and conflict resolution and vary along a number of dimensions, women are absent as significant agents. It is argued that the language of conflict management constitutes a socially shared, agreed-to reality that publicly defines the end of the conflict.
