Annotation

This study tests Hochberg's (1986) Functional Compensation Hypothesis, which relates frequent pronominal expression to frequent deletion of agreement marking on finite verbs in Puerto Rican Spanish (PRS). This hypothesis is dismissed as non-specific 'tú' appears to be the key to frequency differences between -s- deleting PRS and -s- conserving 'Madrid' Spanish.
