This paper analyzes and describes collaborative caller identification through invited guessing in Chinese telephone conversations between female participants, discussing various functions it achieves, such as social and discourse-structural, and characterizing its contextual -e.g. cultural- variables. Patterns observed in the Chinese data are then compared to relevant English data.
