Annotation

An attempt to develop a model for discourse analysis, building upon philosophical, sociological, and (text) linguistic approaches. There are sections on the role of text grammars in discourse analysis, on the principles of illocutionary acts and their relevance, on the social and interactional significance of language use, the role of ethnomethodology in discourse analysis and conversational analysis. Several approaches to discourse are reviewed, and an alternative model is proposed.
