Annotation

This study deals with a specific problem related to a second language native-speaker target for learners of pragmatics: a native speaker might misconstrue the behaviour of a learner behaving in a native-like way. This argument is illustrated with fragments of ethnographic data on the pragmatic problem of avoiding unwelcome questions in Indonesian.
