This paper introduces the notion of ‘discourse stance’ and delineates the three involved dimensions of orientation, attitude, and generality. Then it discusses predictions for the realization of discourse stance in relation to the variables of genre, modality, development, and target language (Dutch, English, French, Hebrew, Icelandic, Spanish, and Swedish).
