Annotation

This study examines how Vietnamese adult Australian English learners modified their criticisms in a peer-feedback session. Findings demonstrate that learners, notwithstanding their proficiency levels, used to under-employ modality markers, in particular internal modifiers. Factors that might have affected this pragmatic behavior are L1 transfer, incomplete L2 linguistic proficiency, and cognitive difficulty in spontaneous language production.
