Drawing on pencer-Oatey's rapport management framework, this study explores regional pragmatic variation in reprimanding and facework in Peruvian, Venezuelan and Argentinean Spanish as a potential source of misunderstanding in intra-lingual interchange between these three different cultural groups. Whilst Peruvians and Venezuelans for instance prefer a rapport-challenging orientation, Argentineans exhibit a rapport maintenance orientation.
