Annotation

This study argues that, during the U.S. 2008 elections and the subsequent year, American politicians deployed 1st person plural pronouns to generate nationalistic emotions and attain their career goals differently, depending on the context (in an interview or in a debate). The role of the venue as an external contextual feature appears undervalued in political discourse research.
