Abstract

The objective of this brief article is to discuss the assessment of translation quality. The author looks into various means and criteria to determine if a translation is good or bad, paying special attention to translation quality assessment within a functionalist approach. In this approach the function and/or the purpose of the target text is the decisive criterion of all translations. Finally, the author considers different contexts of translation quality assessment.
