Abstract

The author describes terminology management at the Swedish telecom company, Ericsson. Terminology management typically involves a system for cataloguing, updating, retrieving, and managing terms. Without it, there would be far greater danger of using incorrect or inconsistent terminology. Terminology management is critical for reducing cost and turnaround time: if translators are given approved, standard glossaries of terms, quality and consistency will be far higher. The author outlines how he helped create a terminology department that produced a product with over 15 000 core terms.
