Theatre is as guilty as other mediators in providing us with only a partial view of other cultures. In this article the author analyses the way Finnish theatre translation maps Asia and Asian spoken drama. The author’s interest is in the stereotypes the chosen theatre texts construct as well as the metonymic world atlas outlined through them. The author argues that this atlas differs considerably from a geopolitical atlas, and would never be accepted in any school syllabus.
