Annotation

Anthropological linguistics and linguistic anthropology overlap and can thus be used interchangeably, although specialists can and often do draw a distinction between them. This essay discusses anthropological linguistics' early history and research types, its continutity, the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, the newer inquiry lines of ethnographic semantics and ethnography of speaking and the latter's link with sociolinguistics, and a pragmatic approach to anthropological linguistics.
