Annotation

This essay deals with corpus analysis. Apart from a record of utterances, a corpus should contain the fullest possible information on the utterances' verbal and situational contexts. This presentation concentrates on the research strand of corpus linguistics, and on examples of English corpora. As corpora are repositories of language use, corpus-based studies are naturally biased towards the study of specific languages, genres and language varieties.
