Annotation

This paper explores how playing children present a novel shared activity via two usual constructions —“Let’s X” and “How about X”—, with the former handling the activity as separate from the previous, and the latter handling it as changing the activity in progress. Distributional and turn-design evidence comprising phonetic and bodily resources is used. Atypical cases in which speakers are asserted to either raise or lower the novel-prior activity distance are debated.
