The chapter gives and overview of Interpreting Studies (evolution and state of the art, memes and models and trends in IS) and its relation to Translation Studies. The position of Interpreting Studies within the broader discipline of Translation Studies is ambiguous. Often referred to as a '(sub)discipline', it is both and increasingly autonomous and diversified field of academic pursuit on a par with Translation Studies, and a domain within the latter, alongside such specialized fields as Audiovisual Translation.
