In 1830, Madame G.M. de Rochmondet self-publishes the book “Études sur la traduction de l'anglais". The author is practically unknown. The book suggests a woman of great scholarship that has her own detailed opinion about the role of literary translation within French culture. Her work distinguishes itself from that of her predecessors, who lean towards other authors or devote themselves to the (re)translations of works from Antiquity. This re-edition of Madame de Rochmondet’s work contains an introduction by Benoit Léger, who describes the pioneer position of Madame de Rochmondet as a translator.
