Scarpa, Federica. 2010. La traduction spécialisée. Une approche professionnelle à l’enseignement de la traduction [Specialised translation. A professional didactic approach] (Perspectives on Translation). Ottawa: Les Presses de l’Université d’Ottawa. 464 pp.

Abstract

This book presents the theoretical and methodological principles of specialised translation in general, and more specifically of specialised translation from English into French. The book starts with a description of the characteristics of LSP, based on a text typology and a classification of textual genres. A comparative study highlights the similarities and differences of LSP compared to general language. The book then presents translation strategies from three perspectives: rhetorical and textual features of a specialised text, morpho-syntactic aspects of specialised language and finally, lexical and terminological aspects of the text type. Other chapters discuss the characteristics of translating specialised texts, the notion of equivalence, the methodology of specialised translation and quality control of translations.
