Abstract

This special issue deals with several examples of encounters between East and West. Subjects include: Woody Allen’s screen translation of a Japanese spy thriller; the English translation of the Tale of Genji, a classic work of Japanese literature; the negligence in research of collaborative and relay translation in the development of translation practice under the influence of Buddhism, and also in the late Qing (1890-1911); sound motifs in African Europhone literature; a case study of an early English translation of an Oriya novel; an outline of Naoki Sakai’s translation theory; and a case study of 18th century Russia.
