Abstract
Translation is omnipresent and indispensable for communication between peoples and cultures. The history of translation, an integral part of the discipline known as translation studies, makes it possible to better identify the cultural contexts in which translation takes place and to follow the evolution of thinking about this subject. In this book, Ballard sheds new light on the position of translation in Antiquity, taking into account recent publications in the field. The period examined ranges from Ancient Egypt to St. Jerome, Mesopotamia, Greece, the Ptolemaic period and Rome.
