Abstract

The Research Group on the History of Translation in Latin America (HISTAL) was founded in 2004 by Professor Georges L. Bastin, Álvaro Echeverri and Ángela Campo at Université de Montréal. Although some research on the topic had already done before 2004, the results were barely disseminated outside the region and most of the work was limited to studying famous author-translators such as Jorge Luis Borges and Octavio Paz, and colonial period interpreters such as La Malinche. Therefore, HISTAL made it its mission to promote research on the history of translation in Latin America and to bring to light translations and translators that should be considered historically relevant.
