Abstract

Since Professor Hu Gengshen held the banner of eco-translatology, eco-translatology has enjoyed growing support. However, there still remains some doubt about its name, its system construction and its practical application. By exploring the orientation of eco-translatology in translation studies in China and the West, this paper attempts to examine the following aspects: the proper name for eco-translatology, the inheritance and transcendence of the theoretical construction of eco-translatology to the tradition of Chinese and Western translatology, and the position of eco-translatology in the discourse system of world translation studies. If the seed of eco-translatology is the evolutionary principle of "adaptation / selection", then it is essentially the theory of translation adaptation and selection, and its foundation is the Chinese ecological civilization of the unity of man and nature, and its main body is the "macro medium micro" theory system, whose branches are the international translation research exchange platform. This combination will produce a translation research discourse system with Chinese ecological wisdom and the norms of both Chinese and western academic societies.
