Abstract

This paper aims to introduce Western readers to the time-honored history of translation in China and to well-known Chinese translators from different historical periods. In the process the author also examines various historical facts from a new perspective, applying some concepts in Translation Studies in the West to the Chinese context, emphasizing the macroscopic aspects of power relations in economics, politics, philosophy, and culture as they relate to the history of translation in China.
