Abstract

In this work, edited on the basis of a large amount of first hand documentation, Jesús Baigorri Jalón retraces the origins of conference interpreting and analyses with the meticulousness of a historian and the experience of an interpreter the principal political, social and cultural stakes which have played a role in the creation of the profession at the beginning of the 20th century.
