The creative labor developed in the lyric and prose (narrative and essay) areas, by the Galician poet José Ángel Valente (Ourense 1929 - Geneva 2000) finds a continuation in his work as a translator, that serves as a speaker in an aesthetic, ideological and vital dialogue. This article intends to trace some of the ideological bases that underlie the elaboration of the literary versions accomplished by Valente and that communicate, as a hidden stream, the foreign word with the one’s own. The specific forms of the Valentian translation, the dominant topics, the authors and works selected serve as a guide to the reader, allowing us to know and recognize the procedures of the poetic word in its most rigorous sense of this, its continuity and duration in the form of multiple sense and form confluences that Valente barely reveals.
