Abstract

This article is part of an anthology of contributions from academics who have helped to shape the development of Translation Studies as an academic discipline. It focuses on the author's personal biography, from childhood, adolescence, university, working as an interpreter in the German Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, the move into lecturing at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the University of Mainz in Germersheim, the decision to embark on a PhD on the subject of note-taking and finally a post doctoral thesis entitled Interpreters as Literary Figures.
