Abstract

The relationship between Spain and Catalonia has been tense since 2010. In the wake of a constitutional dispute —alongside other disagreements—, independentism has gained momentum among the population. In 2012, various civil society stakeholders founded the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), an organization whose aim is to achieve political independence from Spain. The Assembly is organized into geographical chapters locally (Girona, Tarragona, etc.) and internationally (USA, France, etc.), as well as by sector (historians, businesspeople, immigrants, etc.). The language sector has joined the movement and created the Translators, Proofreaders, Interpreters and Transcribers for Independence (TCITxI) Sectoral Assembly.
