Abstract

Becoming an efficient translator requires special skills. An efficient translator can process a source text expeditiously without allowing the form of the text to stand in his way. In the case of translation of Asian languages into English, the complexity of syntax of the source text could impede the translation process unless the translator learns to focus on meaning. This paper outlines the nature of problems facing the would-be translator and presents certain types of exercises, such as rewriting in e-prime, and sight translation as means of overcoming these problems. In this context, it also discusses how to take advantage of interpretation training to improve translation skills.
