The situation envisaged by Nida for organising a translation project is commented by the coordinator of the International Panel for the Spanish Translation of Bahá'í Literature in the light of the experience acquired by rendering the Spanish version of The Kitáb-i-Aqdas, as a result of six years of team work with members from different regions of Latin America and Spain. Given that Nida's proposals for organising a translation project can be considered relevant to the translation of Scripture of other major religions, a comparative review of the principles he set out is seen as a clear contrastive presentation of the innovative and ground-breaking experience of the translation of the central book of Bahá'u'lláh into Spanish. From this contrastive presentation a number of polemical issues arise related to indirect translation, team translation with all major decisions taken in consultation by unanimous vote, methods of satisfying tastes of different regions of the Spanish-speaking world, authority translation, setting of standards, and uneasy decisions about capitalisation and the recognition of precedents of authority.
