Abstract
Starting from the general premise that a translation must endeavour to reflect its original as closely as possible since it is an act of re-creation and that the translation of Espriu's verse, in particular, has to understand the man before s/he attempts to understand his poetry, the author gives details of the poet's life and interests before reflecting on some of the solutions adopted when translating a selection of poems from his own work of A Choice Salvador Espriu's Verse. Some of the difficulties discussed concern lexical ambiguity, syntax, rhythm and allusions.
