Ludwig Wittgenstein was born in Vienna in 1889, as the youngest child of a well-known and extraordinarily rich family. His youth must have been overshadowed by the suicide of two of his brothers; a third one took the same decision at the end of the First World War. We know from Wittgenstein's correspondence and some of his diaries which were not destroyed, that Ludwig too suffered from depression and considered suicide himself.
