Combining translation policy and imagology
The case of Dutch literature in Italy
This chapter establishes a connection between the fields of translation policy and imagology to scrutinize the strategies employed by governmental organizations in their support of literary translations. It aims to investigate the role of these strategies in facilitating cultural transfers and shaping evolving perceptions of a country internationally. An overview of the policy by the Dutch
Foundation for Literature in transnational events will be followed
by an examination of promotional strategies employed by the Italian
publisher Iperborea. The similarities between the advertising
material employed by the DFL and the images used by Iperborea to
promote Dutch literature in Italy will be illustrated by means of
paratexts and a series of interviews with relevant stakeholders.
